Follow the footprints to barefeet; most North Korean defectors lose their shoes while crossing the Tumen River into China. It is estimated that in the past decade up to 300,000 refugees have made this dangerous journey and are hiding in China living in constant fear of being repatriated and punished for escaping North Korea.
